After Kohli vs Williamson, Michael Vaughan gives his opinion on Trent Boult vs Jasprit Bumrah

It wasn’t too long ago that Michael Vaughan made a remark that got everyone talking. During a recent interview, the former England captain had said that New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is an equally good batsman as Virat Kohli, but is not talked about as the ‘best batsman’ of the current era due to a lesser fan following than that of his Indian counterpart.

“If Kane Williamson was Indian, he would be the greatest player in the world. But he’s not because you’re not allowed to say that Virat Kohli is not the greatest, because you’d get an absolute pelting on social media. So, you all say Virat is the best purely to get few more clicks and likes, few more numbers following here. Kane Williamson, across formats, is equally the best. I think the way he plays, the calm demeanour, his humbleness, the fact that he is silent about what he does,” Vaughan had told Spark Sport.

This time around, Vaughan was asked to pick the better fast bowler between New Zealand pacer Trent Boult and India quick Jasprit Bumrah. However, the England captain decided to play with a straight bat, lauding both modern-day fast bowlers and explaining how for the first time, he can’t make a choice.

“Bumrah or Boult… I can’t decide. I’m going to sit on the fence probably for the first time in my life. I would say Boult because he’s been doing it for longer, but Bumrah is incredible and a brilliant skilled-bowler, bowled so well in England a couple of years ago. So I think it’s very, very close,” Vaughan told Spark Sport.

Boult is considered one of the finest fast bowlers in the world, and arguably the best when it comes to left-arm pacers in the world. With 281 Test wickets, Boult has been New Zealand’s fast-bowling spearhead and will be key against India in the World Test Championship final.

Similarly, Bumrah, since his debut in Test cricket in 2018, has been unstoppable. He is the fastest Indian bowler to pick 50 Test wickets and became the country’s third hat-trick taker in the format after Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan.
