Former CBI director Ashwani Kumar was found dead at his residence in Shimla on Wednesday. He was also the former governor of Nagaland.
Ashwani Kumar, an officer of the Indian Police Service (1972 batch), led the Central Bureau of Investigation from August 2008 to November 2010.
He also served in the Special Protection Group during the tenure of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Former CBI Director AP Singh, who took over from Kumar in 2010 told Hindustan Times, “It’s absolutely shocking. I have worked closely with him as a special director. He was a gentleman. Never lost his temper. I always found him very pleasant, soft spoken; he never ever spoke to anybody in a raised voice.”
He had resigned from the post of Nagaland governor in 2014. He was teaching at the Jindal Law University before his demise.
