Monsoon to make onset over Kerala today: IMD | Latest News India

Under the influence of a trough at mean sea level off Karnataka-Kerala coasts and strengthening of westerly winds; scattered to widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds and isolated heavy rainfall is likely over parts of south peninsular India during the next two days

Conditions are favourable for onset of monsoon over Kerala today, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its Thursday morning bulletin.

Under the influence of a trough at mean sea level off Karnataka-Kerala coasts and strengthening of westerly winds; scattered to widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds and isolated heavy rainfall is likely over parts of south peninsular India during the next two days.

Due to strengthening of lower level southwesterly winds, widespread rainfall activity is very likely over northeastern states during the next five days. Heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh during June 4 to 6; Assam and Meghalaya during June 3 and 4 and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on June 5 and 6.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also very likely over Assam & Meghalaya on June 5, and 6.

A western disturbance as a trough is affecting the western Himalayan region. Under its influence, isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds is very likely over parts of western Himalayan region and the adjoining plains of northwest India during next the 2-3 days.
